International SOS

MIT has contracted with International SOS (ISOS), a global medical and security assistance company, to provide support services to the MIT community while abroad.

What does ISOS provide?

When traveling internationally, you can contact ISOS directly, 24 hours a day, year-round, for services including:

  • Emergency medical, security, and natural disaster evacuation.
  • 24-hour assistance clinics and remote-site medical facilities outside the U.S.
  • Information on current security and medical alerts and required immunizations.
  • Call-in interpretation assistance with medical providers or local transport providers.
  • Enhanced emotional support (PDF) services.

IMPORTANT NOTE: ISOS is not health or travel insurance. They do not rebook missed flights or handle issues such as lost luggage. Please refer to our Healthcare and insurance section for more information on medical benefits.

Who is covered by ISOS?

ISOS services are available to MIT faculty and staff traveling for business or leisure, for students on trips related to MIT educational pursuits, and to other MIT related parties. Please refer to this chart (PDF) for information on when and how the services apply.

Before you depart

  1. Visit the MIT/ISOS portal prior to travel to review current security and medical alerts for the country you are visiting and sign up to receive security email alerts (PDF) (portal requires an MIT certificate to access). Alternatively, if you forward your e-ticket email to MITTravel@itinerary.internationalsos.com, this step automatically signs you up for email alerts.
  2. Download the MIT/ISOS membership app prior to your trip. You can use it to get travel alerts from your current location, call for assistance with one click, link to important medical and travel security information, and live chat directly with a 24/7 medical and security specialist. For more information on how to use the app, refer to this guide (PDF).
  3. Request an MIT/ISOS travel card (A copy can also be downloaded through the MIT/ISOS portal.)

How to contact ISOS

You can call ISOS collect, 24 hours a day: +1 (215) 942-8478, using MIT’s ID#: 11BSGC000066 or use the MIT/ISOS membership app to call for assistance or live chat with a specialist. You will need access to a wireless connection or an international data plan in order to use the app.
